Now is the Time for Men to Take Their Rightful Place, Pastor G.E. Knight Challenges Men of Westmount Church
By Bro. Horace I. Goddard
The men’s ministry of Westmount Seventh Day Adventist Church, under the leadership of Bro. Glen Knight and his team, put on an eventful day on the Sabbath of November 11, 2006.
The sermon, entitled “Men in whom the Spirit Dwells,” was preached by Dr. Gladstone Earl Knight of the New York Conference. His message was an exhortation to men to take their rightful place in the church beside the women. “Now is the time for men to accept the spiritual and moral leadership of the home, church, and community”, he said. This inspirational message delighted the entire congregation. There was spiritual nourishment for all. The church service also included the Westmount men’s Chorale, ably assisted by Sis. Petula Clarke and Bro. Stephen Petersen. In its debut performance, the chorale gave a rendition of “God will find a way”.
Dr. Knight returned at four o’clock in the afternoon to address the men once more. In this session more women attended than men. However, Dr. Knight conducted and informative and interactive seminar entitled, “True Greatness”. In his message, he noted that men and nations are not great by virtue of their wealth, but by the wealth of their virtues, including moral character, true integrity, faithfulness and sense of responsibility. He said individually or corporately, being responsible determines one’s greatness in life. “Maturity does not come with age, but begins with the acceptance of responsibility”, he noted. When a man finally accepts responsibility for his own action it not only changes his destiny but that of others.
In the seminar, Dr. Knight further urged men to reach out and teach what is right to children and youth. He said the greatest value of a father’s legacy is in the faith he leaves in his child’s life. Men should not allow the wisdom, experience, and knowledge God has entrusted to them to die with them. “Don’t bury your legacy of faith when you die. Plant it in some young mind and heart, and let it live long after you are gone”, he counseled. Among other things, he urged men to teach their children to accept responsibility for their actions. "This is a basic tenet of fathering", he said.
The men’s ministry would like to thank Pastor Knight for his inspiring message, Pastor Herbert Valiame (Director of Family Ministries, Quebec Conference) and Pastor Cousins and the church Board, and all those who gave their invaluable assistance in making November 11, 2006, a memorable day for the men of Westmount.
